YOU HAVE 4 LIVES LEFT IN THE GAME WITH HIGHSCHOOL JACOB'S NEWEST SINGLE AND VIDEO GAME "NOT WORTH DYING 4"
Highschool Jacob's Jacob Masters is an alt-pop talent based out of Los Angeles. Inspired by vintage video games and advertising, Highschool Jacob realized that everyone could use some fun while getting through the struggles that come with the fight and survival of the COVID-19 pandemic. Highschool Jacob is considered a master at retro-inspired jams, and that is absolutely evident in his newest single, "Not Worth Dying 4". With moody synths, a catchy syncopated beat, groovy breakdowns, and lyrics like "Running, keep them running" this tune is a total vibe, here to help you through your COVID recovery and then some.
"'Not Worth Dying 4' is a millennial love song", says the songwriter. "I wanted to reflect on the criticisms of Millennials and Gen Z and how expansive they can be. From disparaging their work ethic, insulting their opinions, and ridiculing their career goals when so many were fed lies about how the world was going to function when they got older, the slow build in the verses slowly illuminate the potential laundry list of forces at work on a young person's life."
Each single is equipped with a flash game available to play for free on his website that follows the themes of each song. The message of running represents "running towards something, or just in place". HSJ sends the same theme in his corresponding video game. "When designing the game for the song I wanted to embody the 'Castlevania' 'Zelda(y)' aesthetic of the album artwork while still highlighting the themes of the song. This means that every time you load it up, the dungeon will be randomly generated ensuring everyone's experience will be different. The player will embody that heroic figure with a sword and shield battling the forces of evil but in their own unique way". Highschool Jacob challenges us to be a hero in our own world.
