YELLOWCARD RETURN FROM THE GRAVE WITH THEIR AMAZING NEW 'CHILDHOOD EYES' EP
Rock fiends rejoice! After saying farewell in 2016, the pop-punk icons in Yellowcard are back with their new EP, Childhood Eyes, out today, July 21st on Equal Vision Records and it’s the perfect comeback record for one of the early millennium’s most celebrated bands. This five-song release is a short, sweet kick in the noggin, that’ll jog the memory of all your favorite Yellowcard anthems from summer’s past while boasting a new sense of maturity in their songwriting and performances.
Yellowcard shakes the cobwebs off in a big way on Childhood Eyes’ opening track, “Three Minutes More.” Featuring Pierce The Veil vocalist Vic Fuentes, this song is a masterclass in galloping tempos, crunchy guitar riffs juxtaposed with epic melodies, and dueling vocals that all but grab the listener by their headphones and induce involuntary sing-alongs. The EP’s title track is up next and just might be one of the catchiest songs of Yellowcard’s career. Yes, the fellas that transported the entire world to the corner of Cherry Street on “Ocean Ave” might have gone and outdone themselves with “Childhood Eyes.” That’s how massive the hook on this song is and probably why the band released this as the record’s main single and why its music video has a quarter million views and rising.
“Hiding From The Light” might be the sleeper, underrated best song on this EP. We here at Get Some Magazine have no say in such matters, but if Equal Vision wanted our input this should be the second single, like tomorrow. It’s another up-tempo banger with harmonies galore and features some of the finest violin & guitar solos imaginable. This is vintage Yellowcard with a capital Y. We haven’t even discussed “Honest From The Jump,” a heartfelt yet kinda heavy, tune seemingly designed to prompt large festival crowds to clap their hands and sing in unison; or the monster closer, “The Places We’ll Go” featuring Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional. Sonically, “Places” is a lowkey, acoustic-centric jam but emotionally it’s a beast of a track with Yellowcard frontman Ryan Key pouring his heart out alongside Dashboard-style wails and it’s nothing short of epic.
Childhood Eyes is the perfect encapsulation of Yellowcard’s vibrant past and a promising indicator of what they’ve got rolled up their sleeves for the future. Order your copy HERE!
