YEAR AFTER YEAR CARRY THE SPIRIT OF MIDWEST EMO WITH NEW SINGLE ‘WADE’

Japanese indie rock band Year After Year has returned with their fifth single, “Wade.” Released on March 3, the track marks the band’s first new music since their most recent EP dropped in November of last year, continuing the steady momentum they’ve built since forming in 2022.

The three-piece group describes their sound as “having seasons,” and “Wade” leans fully into that philosophy. The song captures the quiet melancholy that often settles in as summer fades, balancing nostalgia with a subtle push toward moving forward. There’s a reflective quality to the track that feels both personal and universal, touching on the emotional pull of looking back as one slowly accepts that certain chapters are meant to close.

Musically, “Wade” carries a strong Midwest emo influence at its core. Clean, shimmering guitar lines and a steady rhythm section create a sense of movement that mirrors the song’s themes. The instrumentation feels spacious and contemplative, allowing the emotion behind the track to breathe while still building toward moments of quiet intensity.

Rather than dwelling entirely on the past, the song feels like a transition point. “Wade” acknowledges the weight of memory but frames it as a starting point for whatever comes next. It’s a thoughtful, atmospheric step forward for the band and a promising glimpse into where their sound may be heading next.

’Wade’ is available now to stream on Year After Year’s Spotify located below:
