YAWN REFLECTS ON LIFE AS AN ARTIST WITH NEW SINGLE “WASTING TIME”

Yawn is the creation of Canadian artist and musician Julia Mcdougall. Last year Julia released her debut EP as Yawn titled You & I, driving an intimate dream-pop sound. Julia’s songwriting wonderfully captures a place between the natural and the technological in terms of her unique blend of genre, instrumentation, and production. Yawn now seeks to continue her solo mission with her first single of the year “Wasting Time”.

“I don’t want to waste, I don’t want to waste any more time. I don’t wanna roll through every single season of my life”, Julia softly sings in the opening lines of “Wasting Time”. Speaking on the latest single, Julia confirmed “Wasting Time is about what it really means to commit to life as an artist: the risks involved, how to counteract all the expectations from the people around you, how to push against the tides of capitalism and societal norm”.

“Wasting Time” is beautifully emotive with the instrumental composed of airy swelling synth pads, arpeggiators, and electronic drums samples. Floating naturally above the electronic foundation of this track lyes some solo saxophone and of course Julia’s heartfelt lyricism. Together Yawn creates an eclectic dream-pop record further bridging the gap between Julia and her audience.
