North Carolina’s noise-country juggernaut Wednesday has returned with a haunting new single and music video, “Pick Up That Knife,” pulled from their upcoming album Bleeds Out, due out September 19th via Dead Oceans. The band has also announced a full slate of Fall 2025 tour dates, bringing their raucous live energy back to venues across North America.
“Pick Up That Knife” finds Wednesday at their most visceral—melding distorted guitars, searing feedback, and Karly Hartzman’s emotionally raw vocals into a sound that’s equal parts twang and chaos. Lyrically, it’s a song about confrontation, the kind of self-destruction you see coming and can’t stop. It’s cathartic, violent, and weirdly beautiful—everything Wednesday does best.
The accompanying video leans hard into their Southern Gothic aesthetic. Shot like a fever dream, it captures the unease and urgency of the track while showcasing the band’s DIY spirit and visual storytelling chops.
Bleeds Out promises to push the band’s genre-defying blend of shoegaze, alt-country, noise rock, and confessional lyricism even further. If “Pick Up That Knife” is any indication, this record will bleed with intention—raw, loud, and deeply personal.
With a relentless work ethic, critical acclaim, and a cult following that continues to grow, Wednesday is solidifying its position as one of the most exciting and uncompromising bands in the underground music scene. Their Fall 2025 tour is poised to be one of their most electrifying runs yet.
Indie gothic rock veterans Murder by Death have returned with a gripping new single and video, “Pick Up That Knife,” the latest preview of their upcoming album Bleeds Out, due out September 19th via Dead Oceans. Alongside the release, the band has also announced a full Fall 2025 North American tour.
“Pick Up That Knife” is a slow-burning, noir-drenched track that finds Murder by Death at their most cinematic and brooding. Frontman Adam Turla’s signature baritone cuts through a haze of reverb-heavy guitars and ominous strings, building tension with every verse. Lyrically, the song explores betrayal, inner conflict, and the metaphorical—and maybe literal—knives we hold against the people we love.
The accompanying video leans hard into the band’s dark Western aesthetic, blending stark visuals, tense close-ups, and flashes of violence and redemption. It's a perfect visual companion to a song that feels like it belongs in a blood-soaked indie film or a slow-burning HBO crime series.
Bleeds Out marks a new chapter for Murder by Death—deeper, darker, and more expansive. The album promises to explore themes of violence, forgiveness, and reckoning, all wrapped in the band’s trademark mix of gothic Americana, folk, and rock.
The newly announced Fall 2025 tour will take the band across the U.S., bringing their haunting live show to both longtime fans and new listeners alike.
