KEEP THE SPOOKY VIBES GOING WITH “I’M A SPIRIT”

Dark, brooding, and eerie, Animal Scream recently dropped “I’m a Spirit,” a moody darkwave song that will make you feel like a vampire. The Pittsburgh-based band, formed by Chad Monticue and Josh Sickels, captures a supernatural sound that is incredibly unique to them.

It opens with a slower pace, guided by a beat that’s led by haunting keys. The low, emotional vocals come in, immediately setting the dreary mood. Each piece is slowly layered, eventually creating an atmospheric melody that is incredibly groovy.

“I’m a Spirit” explores the concept of wandering endlessly as a supernatural entity, grappling with the conflict of not belonging anywhere. The repetition in the lyrics is both beautiful and haunting, playing into the existential dread of the unknown. Anyone who struggles with feeling a sense of belonging will find comfort and solace in listening to this track.

Those synths that come in the end are superb, really adding a psychedelic and electronic sound that is equal parts gloomy and energetic. It sounds like walking through a graveyard. I adore these twists at the end that tie it up perfectly.

Overall, Animal Scream really outdid themselves with this cinematic track. Halloween is never over with “I’m a Spirit,” and I don’t mind that.
