DECEITS UNVEIL THEIR BEAUTIFULLY SORROWFUL YET INFECTIOUS POST PUNK SINGLE “PLEASE, WAKE UP”
Los Angeles post-punk trio DECEITS return with “Please, Wake Up,” a track that captures everything that makes the band special. It is equal parts Bauhaus pulse and Cure-style melancholic sweep, carried by the emotional warmth and Chicano influence that have defined their rise in the underground. The song feels like a gothic love story, though not one rooted in tragedy. Instead, it leans into longing, acceptance, and that quiet hope that borders on heartbreak.
The track is built around a pulsing bassline and a swinging drum groove that practically urge the listener to move. Atmospheric guitars and soft, glowing keyboards float above the rhythm, creating a space that feels both sorrowful and strangely comforting. Kevin Moreno’s vocals sit right in the center, anguished but steady, delivering lines like “Please wake up, my soul seeks your light” with a sincerity that hits immediately. By the time the bridge cools everything down and leads into the slow-burning crescendo, the emotional weight is impossible to ignore. Each repetition of “Please wake up tonight” sounds more desperate, more human, more real.
DECEITS have earned a cult following in the goth and alternative scenes, and it is easy to hear why. Co-founded by lifelong friends Kevin Moreno and Francisco Saenz in 2021, the band set out to create post-punk that wasn’t confined to cold, monotone aesthetics. They wanted movement, color, and the rhythmic spark of the Spanish-language music they grew up with. Joined by guitarist Skylar Francise, the trio has built a sound that feels familiar to fans of The Cure, New Order, Motorama, or The Chameleons, yet is carried by a cultural heartbeat entirely their own.
Their momentum has been steady. After releasing a string of well-received singles, DECEITS dropped their debut album “If There’s No Heaven…” in 2023, powered by underground favorites like “Drowning In An Empty Sea” and “Mi Amor, Mi Vampira.” The project earned them U.S. tour dates, a headlining show at the El Rey Theater, and a slot at the 2025 Cruel World Festival.
“Please, Wake Up” shows a band still growing, still sharpening their emotional focus, and still refusing to sound like anyone but themselves. It is catchy, sad, cinematic, and full of life. Precisely the kind of song that proves why DECEITS have become one of the most exciting names in modern post-punk.
