THE SEAFLOOR CINEMA’S “OAKLANDS FINEST GLASS BEACHES” IS AN ABSOLUTE EARWORM

BY Kayla Moreno

The Seafloor Cinema has established a dynamic, arena-worthy sound in their latest single, “Oaklands Finest Glass Beaches.” As an East Bay Area kid, it’s understandable how they managed to make the connection between their full, warm chorus and catchy, twinkly math-rocky guitar riff to the Imperial Walker-clad Oakland shoreline.

There is a distinctive Bay Area heavy music sound throughout the song. The Northern California vibes are ever-present throughout the track, and though Sacramento deviates away from the traditional Bay Area borderlines, The Seafloor Cinema evidently knows what’s up.

The composition of the song is reminiscent of bands like Belmont, but the lead vocals are more akin to the stylistic choices of Sleeping With Sirens’ Kellin Quinn. This balance always makes for an interesting single, since contrast will add life to any mix.

“Oaklands Finest Glass Beaches” is a great introduction to their upcoming self-titled album. If the rest of the record keeps going in this direction, The Seafloor Cinema has the potential to bring back a genre that is long overdue for a true, modern revamp.
