THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA STORMS THROUGH THE HOUSE OF BLUES CHICAGO

The Devil Wears Prada at House of Blues Chicago

As October 2024 came to a close, The Devil Wears Prada stormed through the House of Blues Chicago on The Devil Wears Prada’s Eternal Tour. Silent Planet, Like Moths to Flames, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, and Greyhaven supported the legendary metalcore band as the third show of the tour rolled through the pretty divided but still united United States of America.

Greyhaven

Unburdening the crowd from the upcoming election, Greyhaven kicked off the intense night of metal music. Promoting their new EP, Stereo Grief, they warmed up the crowd with their super slick, dissonant riffs. The band belted out their tunes to an excited Chicago crowd as they ripped on their Balaguer guitars (heavily featured that evening). Little did the crowd know they were in for an incredible, full-throttle night of phenomenal bands.

SeeYouSpaceCowboy

SeeYouSpaceCowboy created their atmosphere in the metal scene with their unique punk/metal riffs that night. Wikipedia categorizes them as “sasscore,” but genres can be helpful and meaningless. Regardless of whatever genre they belong to, they crushed their set and were awarded the second highest honor of the night as I risked hearing damage by pulling out my earplugs to listen to the music more clearly. Tight shirts, tank tops, and a giant mustache adorned the band members as they gave it their all. Having already known the band Greyhaven, SeeYouSpaceCowboy was the official winner of my “Must Listen To Later” award for the night.

Like Moths To Flames

Like Moths to Flames is the most underrated band of the 2020s. The band’s metric modulation breakdowns, provocative tapping riffs, brutal drum beats, and insane vocals were the BEST part of the entire night. With so much talent, I was shocked to find these incredibly humble musicians happily taking photos with a giant line of fans at the merch table. The show seemed to have finally started as the band jumped on stage and began playing their song “Habitual Decline”. The surge of energy was undeniable as Chris led the crowd into a moshing, hand-waving frenzy. They played their third song, “Over The Garden Wall,” which features one of the most incredible breakdowns you’ve ever heard and the crowd absolutely loved it. Crowdsurfers came storming over the barricades, mosh pits swirled, and hands waved in unison as the audience went wild. The show's energy went from zero to one hundred instantly due to the band’s legendary music and stage presence. Like Moths To Flames was undeniably the greatest band of the night as the energy roared for Silent Planet and The Devil Wears Prada.

Silent Planet

Silent Planet came next and crushed it. Having seen and photographed them countless times, I can easily say this was the best set I’ve seen. They stopped doing some more poetic, spoken-word lyrics, which kept the energy high during their shows. Their new album, SUPERBLOOM, is a fantastic step in a new direction, and the power of the crowd truly reflected that. Garrett was barefoot as usual and performed highly energetic, grateful, and contemplative. For the production of their new album, it seemed like there were more backing tracks than normal, but I could be wrong. That said, it was probably the most intense Silent Planet show I have ever seen.

The Devil Wears Prada

The Devil Wears Prada crushed the audience into oblivion. Their set, light show, and stage presence were all top-notch. They played many songs from their newest hit album, Color Decay, along with many songs from their previous records. Heavily leaning into their new but similar sound, TDWP brought the noise as the crowd lost their minds listening to their latest album. The light show was incredible, and the energy was insane throughout the show. The only exception was in the last quarter of the show, where TDWP played some of their remixed songs with electronic artists. While I was initially interested in the artistic reinterpretation of these songs, I didn’t want to see them live. However, they played many songs off of their Z2 EP, which was a welcome surprise! Crowdsurfers swarmed the venue throughout the show as the lights blazed with a giant illuminated The Devil Wears Prada logo behind them.
