TAKE FLIGHT WITH NATHANIEL PAUL'S NEW SINGLE "SONGBIRD"
"The dream is to go back. The nightmare is that we never can". Nathaniel Paul squeezes every last drop of hope in his new single and video, "Songbird".
The single is mellow, groovy, and makes a great effort to help you gain perspective of your current placement in life. "I wanna try again/ fly again/ set my sights on/ the sky", are lyrics that help you solidify hope, and encourages you to not settle for where your feet are currently planted.
Paul states that "Songbird" is a reflection of the year 2020. Upon running a simple errand at the grocery store during quarantine, Nathaniel ran into someone that would stop him in his tracks. "I met an elderly man who struck up a conversation with me. He began the conversation with "Life is hard when you outlive all the ones you love". The songwriter was not immediately phased by this forward and prolific statement from the stranger. Instead, he saw the vulnerability and the desperate need for the stranger to be heard. "I could tell he just needed someone to talk to. I felt this sense that he thought the world had forgotten about him." In life, there are so many opportunities to stop and listen to those speaking to us, and we often ignore those opportunities. But Nathaniel Paul took his pause and moment with this stranger and turned it into a song. "'Songbird' was a direct inspiration from that moment. This idea of life after all that you love and care for is gone. His story resonated with me in the way that I feel from COVID taking away so many small businesses -- so many dreams from all of us", says Paul.
Overall, Nathaniel wants you to listen to "Songbird" and know that there's hope. "'Songbird' hopes to take you to a place of hope amidst a looming dark shadow cast over the world".
