Anyone who’s been to the Palladium in Hollywood can tell you a show seen within its confines is worth its weight in gold; the Spoon concert was no exception. A night of vivid lighting and chill music, mixed with good vibes and people made for an efficacious evening for the band and audience alike. Not one person was without a smile on their face as they left the ballroom floor at the end of the night.

After an energetic opening performance from the New York-based band Geese, we were treated to Spoon opening the show with “Held”. The crowd bobbed their heads along as the smooth beats set by the drums and grungy guitar riffs mixed with flares of red lighting to start a journey of sound throughout the crowded theatre.

The tone set for the rest of the evening was complimented by various performances of favorites such as “Inside Out”, “The Underdog”, and “I Turn My Camera On”. Fans of Spoon present were treated to an audio wonderland as well as visual magic in the form of gradient color tones from lighting which brought us through several settings both conflicting and complimenting to previous songs.

Moments in particular that stood out were when the band began to play “Wild” and “Inside Out”. With “Wild”, a single golden light illuminated frontman Britt Daniel as he started playing along with the beat laid down by Jim Eno, all of which brought cheers from the crowd, quickly followed by an entire choir of fans singing along to this one of many treasured songs. By the time “Inside Out” started to play, the room moved with a flow of waves in an ocean with hands in the air, bobbing heads, and plenty of terrible dancing. It’s moments like this that make a live concert unlike any other form of entertainment. The sense of community and joy brought about by fans of Spoon make anyone in the same room leave their worries at the door.
