SLEEPWALK STEP OUT OF THE HAZE WITH NEW SINGLE “SANDBOX”

Chicago four-piece Sleepwalk is giving us another look at what’s ahead on their new LP, View From The Outside, with their latest single, “Sandbox.” Released September 8, the track blends the band’s shoegaze roots with a heavier alternative-rock sound that immediately hooks you.
“Sandbox” kicks off with a thick guitar riff you can actually groove to before pulling things back for a more subdued first verse. That restraint doesn’t last long. By the time the chorus hits, the song opens up with a huge melody and layers of guitars that give it plenty of weight without burying what makes it catchy in the first place.
Arriving alongside the single is a music video directed by Max Rubin and Matthew Brown that perfectly captures the song’s throwback energy. There’s something about watching the entire band simply doing their thing and ripping through the track that feels like stumbling onto a music video from a 2000s dad-rock playlist. Even the visuals carry a little of the scrappy, blown-out energy of The Offspring’s Smash album cover.
Fans of Radiohead, Superheaven and Soul Blind should find plenty to like here. Sleepwalk manages to pull from shoegaze, alternative rock and heavier guitar music without “Sandbox” feeling like it’s trying too hard to belong to any one of them.
