Still, the song is self-aware, calling out society’s overall close-mindedness, albeit briefly. Lyrically, the track stands out, with puns and play-on-words abound. Jennifer excels in both storytelling and evocative delivery, engaging listeners within each layer of the song.

One of the few perks of living at this time is the incredible music that will emerge as a result of societal turmoil. Um, Jennifer? shifts the narrative, positioning gender expression as a part of life, just as anything else—despite the rigid restrictions of others.

Sonically, “Car Wash” is goddamn catchy as hell. “Pokemon and kiss him on the lips” is hilarious, and thanks to the delivery of that lyric specifically, the song will be stuck in my head for years to come.
