YOUR NEW ADDICTION BY DEAR BOY IS HERE IN “THE ADDRESS”
Dear Boy recently released “The Address,” giving us a taste of their new album, Celebrator, which is set to be released on October 17th. And man, this song is a hit.
This absolutely beautiful, whimsical song combines shoegaze elements with clear vocals that really rock your senses. The early 2000s vibe is really present and meshes flawlessly with the band’s signature post-punk song.
That fuzzy guitar takes me to a warm, nostalgic place, and the reversal of elements towards the end seals the deal.
“The Address” really reminds me of later New Order, providing a chill song that anybody can get down to. It also reminds me of some of Sonic Youth’s more melodic songs.
Speaking of youth, "Dear Boy" employs motifs of hopefulness and childlike curiosity, lending this song a fresh appeal.
Repetition is a lyrical device used throughout, asking “how long will it last?” which ties into the theme of growing older and changing. I love the repetition at the end of “How long ‘til how I feel”; it provides a lasting impact and lasts a while, but doesn’t get old. It really hammers in that early 2000s feeling that I’m getting.
This gives serious throwback vibes with a new twist that really lends it a raw edge. I absolutely love “The Address” and am excited to hear the rest of the album.
