“SECRETS” BY CHAFT WILL BE STUCK IN YOUR HEAD FOR THE NEXT WEEK

CHAFT is the brainchild of musician Derek Miller, who has one of the most unique ears for production known to man…or at least to me! His confidence in his performance showcases a clean mix– one that he has put lots of blood, sweat, and tears into.

Clear harmonies are the most fascinating part of this pop song. The guitar work sounds like it belongs in Albert Hammond Jr.’s catalog, but the harmonies add so much depth to what would otherwise be true bedroom pop.

There are also melodic tendencies that call back to the 60s, with my imagination immediately gravitating towards The Beatles, if the Beatles were just one guy. However, his instrumentation makes it feel like several other people were in the studio recording with him. There are distinguishable styles between each layer that come together very nicely.

Hopefully, Miller will be encouraged by his first efforts to pursue this project further. He has a lot of potential; eventually, when fully developed, his records could grace the shelves of indie record stores everywhere.
