SAM VALDEZ'S NEW TRACK "BACKSEAT" IS A BEAUTIFUL POEM FOR YOUR EARS

Poetry meets beautiful melodies and soft vocals—Sam Valdez’s new song “Backseat” is a powerful, gloomy tale. You can feel the devastating pain and longing within. Much like Lana Del Rey, Valdez does an amazing job of romanticizing troubled relationships, adding melancholy sounds to hypnotize her listeners.

Sam Valdez’s genre plays on lo-fi, indie rock, chillwave, and shoegaze. Her poetry-written lyrics build a connection with her listeners, making each song she releases personal; as if we are reading into her diary. The personal experiences and memories she sings about create a dark space where she is able to sing one on one to her listener.

“BackSeat” is an intimate song that resembles a Lana Del Rey song about crying in the backseat, Valdez writes about her own experience in the backseat—waiting for a sign from the universe to convince her to ultimately leave her lover because it isn't healthy. The backseat concept is a fantasy that is usually associated with sexual desire but can also be seen as a place of escape. “Crashing every time” with your significant lover paints us an image of a relationship nearing its end. Valdez is an amazing songwriter, and this song is worth listening to.
