Prettier Now, the brainchild of NYC-based musician Christian Monte, continues to carve out its own space where shoegaze, grunge, and dream pop collide. With a growing reputation for massive guitars and emotionally charged songwriting, the project is gearing up to release its forthcoming album, Miracle Charm. Its latest single, “Running From The Sun,” makes one thing abundantly clear: Prettier Now has no intention of turning down the volume.
At just three minutes, “Running From The Sun” is a bombastic collision of angst, distortion, and relentless guitar work. Monte's impassioned vocals battle their way through a towering wall of fuzzed-out guitars, while an endless barrage of crashing cymbals threatens to swallow everything in its path. It's loud, unapologetic, and beautifully chaotic.
Beneath the distortion, the bass locks tightly with the kick drum, laying down a thunderous foundation that practically demands serious headbanging. The guitars unleash a constant assault of riffs and harmonics, creating a dense, swirling atmosphere that feels equal parts overwhelming and exhilarating. An undeniable sense of urgency runs through the track, as though the entire band is racing toward something just out of reach.
The opening five seconds of guitar offer the only real moment of breathing room. From there, Prettier Now slam the accelerator to the floor and never let up. Every second is packed with towering instrumentation and furious emotion, right down to the song's fading conclusion, where the band sounds like it could keep tearing through the track long after the recording ends.
For guitar obsessives, shoegaze devotees, and anyone who prefers their rock music loud enough to rattle the walls, “Running From The Sun” delivers. It's a promising glimpse into Miracle Charm and another reminder that Prettier Now know exactly how to make beautiful noise.
