POWERHOUSE INDIE-ROCKERS ZOË KILGREN DROP SUN-SCORCHED SINGLE “GIRLS IN SKIRTS”

Do you have plenty of SPF on hand? You should because summer is here with a vengeance, and recent drops are as reflective as the sun’s UV rays. LA’s finest, Zoë Kilgren, dropped a single that’s cheekier than your favorite bikini, “Girls In Skirts.”

Tongue-in-cheek, “Girls In Skirts” offers commentary earnestly. Kilgren’s vocal range has a raw grit that you feel throughout your bloodstream. She provides a banshee screech that is both articulate and on-pitch, impressively so. Most notably, there is no audible vocal strain in any of those belts and plenty throughout the track.

The instrumental flows beautifully, like easy-going ocean waves on a chill beach day. Its groove minds its business while guitar riffs occasionally clash between each layer, but they always find their way back to where they need to be. “Girls In Skirts” isn’t perfect, but that’s the point—the mess makes it as perfect as the girls in skirts who inspired the song.

Kilgren writes for the oversharers, those who won’t “get through the summer without telling you everything in my head.”

“Girls In Skirts” says so much without doing too much, with Kilgren’s once-in-a-lifetime lead vocal taking charge against a perfectly messy instrumental.
