PALEJOY CONFRONTS THE ROUTINE AND MUNDANE IN NEW SINGLE “NEXT GOAL WINS”
Many have experienced the illusion of Groundhog Day, where everything fuses into itself endlessly. Such is the truth of your latter 20s bleeding into your early 30s, articulated clearly by Palejoy in their single, “Next Goal Wins.”
The up-and-comers are establishing a signature sound marked by gritty, post-modern texture a la Nirvana. They would do well on a bill with Chicago’s Footballhead, who integrates similar nostalgic elements while modernizing them.
“Next Goal Wins” is a slow build, but a worthy climax. Each crescendo exhilarates the senses and affirms existential crises, regardless of the scope or source. Most of us are horrified by the passage of time; however, nothing offers a starker reminder quite like a daily routine.
Hopefully, Palejoy will embrace the gift of aging as they continue to create excellent music. For now, though, their resistance to it culminates in relatable themes, especially as society seems to crumble around us. But hey—at least we have music.
