ON “LONELY LIFE,” CODEFENDANTS JOIN JAKOB NOWELL TO SHAKE THE STATUS QUO

Codefendants, made up of Ceschi, Fat Mike of NOFX, and Sam King of Get Dead, are back with “Lonely Life,” the latest single following their 2023 album This Is Crime Wave. The group has always thrived in the in between, pulling from punk, hip hop, electronic, and new wave without committing to just one lane. They call it genre fluid. It fits.

“Lonely Life” moves fast and hits hard. The verses lean into hip hop, while the chorus explodes into straight-up punk. Electronic textures swirl around distorted guitars and live drums, but nothing feels forced. Everyone gets their moment on the mic, and it never feels like a side project. It sounds like three artists who actually want to be in the same room making noise together.

Lyrically, the track zeroes in on modern isolation. The kind that creeps in while you are scrolling and surrounded by people, yet somehow alone. “For me, these lyrics are about the alienation many of us feel in modern society,” Ceschi says. “There’s a sense of entrapment in a world where we’re constantly bombarded by noise.” It is sharp without being preachy and frustrated without giving up.

The video features Jakob Nowell of Sublime, who plays a guy stuck in the grind of corporate life. It is simple and direct, and it matches the song's tone perfectly.

“Lonely Life” will appear on Codefendants’ upcoming album LIFERS, out April 3. If this single is any indication, they are not dialing anything back.
