ODD POSTURES REVEAL EPICALLY MELANCHOLIC SINGLE “GYMNASIUM”
Nostalgic does not even come close to describing Odd Postures epically melancholy new single “Gymnasium”. On first listen, I’m suddenly reverted to a younger version of myself slowly treading through the snow-laid concrete around my old estate. The new single is cinematic, to say the least, driving a hypnotic electronica aesthetic mixed with ambient vocals, space-echoed guitars, and humming synthesizers.
Speaking on the new record, the group state the “track attempts to bring you to a sweaty gymnasium in rural Ontario. Or instead, maybe it brings you back to your hometown. However unpleasant or joyful that may be. Was it awkward and laughable? Isolating and melancholy? Or something quite different? Were you in the middle of the dance floor or watching from the rafters?”
For me, I guess it was my hometown, but I have now successfully repressed my days of sweaty gymnasiums and lack of school dances. "Gymnasium" is a mood, and a well-constructed one at that employing Matthew O’Halloran's (singer/keyboardist) film score composition skills with Odd Posture’s alternative rock dynamic.
