Indie chick Nisa has released her new single "Common Denominator" into the big grungy world of New York's indie rock scene. We hear all the soft and rough sides of the singer-songwriter with incredibly blunt lyrics and light lollipop background vocals that show a sweet side despite the sting of her words. Right away, it's clear she's not taking all the blame this time. 

“‘Common Denominator” is about miscommunication and the delayed realization that it takes two to tango in silence," says Nisa. She opens a dialogue with the lyrics, "Why is it me who has to answer/ When we both know this one's for you", giving the song a sarcastic "F@!#k you" approach.

The raw electric guitar and summer grunge vibe gives Nisa's voice a light tone with an aggressive edge, implying that she's not quick to get over what her heart is stuck on, "Not on the market still on the man/ Did I cross a line when I saw you cryin'/ Your skin went cold I put myself to bed." Still hanging onto her feelings, she comes to the conclusion that there's a "Common Denominator" and maybe they can work through their differences in light of that realization. The chorus plants conviction with lyrics, "Didn't you want to talk a little/ Didn't you want to talk / It's alright to be in shock/ And struggle/ It's alright if you can't talk", carrying the theme of miscommunication, and delayed realizations that break the silence we've all known far too well.
