NEW JERSEY POP-PUNK STRIKES YET AGAIN WITH TURN TWO BANGER “SYMPTOMS OF SILENCE”

There is something contagious in the Jersey Shore water that continually produces heavy-hitting pop-punk groups like Turn Two. Their new single, “Symptoms of Silence,” indicates all the greats before them, culminating in a rich local music scene. Post-MCR, New Jersey remains among the heavy hitters in the scene. With acts like Midtown to go to for inspiration, it’s no secret how so many incredible bands walk the same shore as legends like Snookie and J-WOW.

I should mention that I have never been to the Jersey Shore, but I vastly appreciate the culture it has bestowed upon me.

This song is pure pop-punk in its most excellent form. Many cliches haunt the genre, but they can be used productively by the right creators—and Turn Two is the correct creator. “Symptoms of Silence” is not only catchy but masterfully crafted. The layers of guitar work perfectly well with multiple stacked harmonies.

Admittedly, the song is a grower; it begins as many in the genre do, but the build at the end makes it deserve a Fall Out Boy comparison (from a diehard fan). The way actual historians and idolizers of the genre listen to it versus the general public should be studied. To me, “Symptoms of Silence” is quintessential pop-punk made by subject experts. Sometimes, I get sent things that “sound like Fall Out Boy,” making me question whether we are listening to the same artist. But this sounds like something that the greats could have made.
