NOTHING ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM A SHORT HISTORY OF DECAY AND DROP “CANNIBAL WORLD” VIDEO

Philadelphia shoegaze heavyweights Nothing have announced their long-awaited new album, A Short History of Decay, due out February 27, 2026, via Run For Cover Records. Along with the announcement, the band shared the record’s first single and video, “Cannibal World” — a blistering, atmospheric track that finds Nothing pushing their sound further into industrial and noise-driven territory while maintaining the melodic weight that has built their name.

Recorded at Sonic Ranch in Texas, A Short History of Decay reunites Nothing’s core lineup: frontman Domenic “Nicky” Palermo, guitarist Doyle Martin (Cloakroom), bassist Bobb Bruno (Best Coast), drummer Zachary Jones (MSC / Manslaughter 777), and guitarist Cam Smith (Ladder to God). The record was produced by Palermo alongside longtime collaborator Nick Bassett and mixed by Sonny Diperri, known for his work with DIIV and Julie.

If “Cannibal World” is any indication, this might be the band’s darkest and most ambitious project yet. The song opens with swirling distortion before erupting into layers of dissonant guitars and mechanical percussion, all tied together by Palermo’s haunting vocals. It’s loud, hypnotic, and raw — the kind of track that feels equally at home in a haze of smoke or echoing off the walls of a massive venue.

Thematically, Palermo describes the album as a reflection on the cyclical nature of creation and collapse — the push and pull between destruction and renewal. It feels like an evolution from the introspective tone of 2020’s The Great Dismal, with more bite and urgency, both musically and lyrically.

With A Short History of Decay, Nothing sounds like a band completely in control of their chaos — sharp, self-aware, and unwilling to stay in one lane. If “Cannibal World” is the first taste, the full album is shaping up to be something massive.
