MOUNT MURAL HIT THE MARK IN NEW SINGLE “OUT AND DOWN”
Mount Mural knows how to keep it short and sweet, and they proved it in their single “Out and down.” The Canadian band has experimented with many sounds, but really harnesses the power of sharp shoegaze in their new song.
The track kicks off with a peppy garage sound that transforms into a dreamy, overworldly soundscape.
With the edgy sounds of My Bloody Valentine combined with the sensual harmony of Sonic Youth, the band harnesses ultimate shoegaze maximalism. There’s a slight rasp in the vocals that mixes effortlessly with the woozy effect that's layered throughout. In typical shoegaze fashion, the lyrics are short and sweet, exploring the unknown.
The guitar absolutely oozes a distinct, distorted sound, complemented by snappy drum fills that bring the song to life. The reverb on this track is special, somehow blasting you into another universe while still keeping you on planet Earth.
The track, clocking in at a little over two minutes, is quick and daring. It wraps you up like a warm embrace with the fuzzy tones and far-out vocals. It then lets you go, to sit in the sounds that just took over you.
Mount Mural had two minutes to show what direction they’re moving in as a band, and they took advantage of every millisecond in “Out and down.”
