MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK RELEASES FIRST NEW SINGLE IN A DECADE “STOP TALKING”

Thank goodness, Motion City Soundtrack is BACK, with a vengeance. Minnesota emo rockers MCS have been scene staples since the early 2000s, shaping the scene's sound by taking creative risks and establishing a signature lyric style that resonates throughout various generations. Their newest single, the first in 10 years, “Stop Talking,” is a culmination of their life’s work—but with new life breathed into it.

This triumphant return was a long time coming; sometimes, these breaks are necessary for bands to return, hitting the ground marathon sprinting. Justin Pierre’s voice sounds the best it ever has, showcasing his classic staccato voice, an almost rap singing technique, in the first verse (a la ‘My Dinosaur Life’), then progressing into a strong belt featuring high notes that perhaps surprised the man himself.

This song features some of the most vital guitar work the band has tried in years, and audiences can tell they love it. Joshua Cain is an incredible guitarist; his commitment to his life’s work deserves this moment in the spotlight and, hopefully, many more to come. That solo in the bridge is fantastic; art speak be damned.

The band’s inherent chemistry is a force to be reckoned with. These scene pioneers have cultivated a sound many, including this journalist, have attempted to emulate, but you can’t outdo the doer.

It was such a comfort to hear a Moog synth lead again.

Welcome back, Motion City Soundtrack!
