MATT ORENSTEIN CHANNELS STAR WARS DARK MAGIC ON NEW SINGLE “NIGHTSISTER”

Matt Orenstein just dropped “Nightsister”, a dark, spellbound electronic cut released on May 4th — Star Wars Day — as a tribute to the mystic, chaos-wielding Nightsisters of Dathomir. It’s the first single from his upcoming album Desiccation, due in late 2025, and it wastes no time pulling you into its eerie, analog world.

Created using an MPC and a TB-303 clone — no DAW in sight — the track pulses with gritty, livewire energy. “I did it this way so it felt more organic,” Orenstein explains. And that intent bleeds through in every warbling acid bassline and ghostly rhythmic shift.

Sonically, “Nightsister” lives somewhere between Tricky’s brooding trip-hop, Durutti Column’s ambient guitar dreamscapes, and the Chicago acid scene Orenstein immersed himself in as a DJ and record store clerk. It’s haunting, heady, and cinematic — music that sounds like it was conjured, not produced.

More singles are on the horizon, with Desiccation set to arrive late 2025. If “Nightsister” is your first taste, expect the rest to be as beautifully unsettling.
