MARLON FUNAKI’S NEW PSYCHEDELIC DREAMPOP BANGER "RED HEARTS" BELONGS ON YOUR CHILL VIBES PLAYLISTS

Marlon Funaki has seen some serious well-earned growth this year. His newest single “Red Hearts” encapsulates his unique production techniques and impressive genre blends.

First and foremost, the single sounds like it would be overwhelmingly good when played on vinyl. The classic indie rock undertones are screaming (calmly) to be displayed on a collector’s shelf. Flowing, wavy psychedelic guitars guide the track, easing listeners into Funaki’s haunting vocals. Which, and this is important to note, are mixed like an alternative rock song, to perfectly contrast the jazzy guitar riffs.

Funaki’s potent California sound is resonant, familiar, and something entirely of his own creation. Fans of surf rock would love the track, but Pink Floyd diehards might also find themselves reaching for it on the daily. A Marlon Funaki opening act for a Rainbow Kitten Surprise headliner would be one for the history books.

It’s difficult to engineer a song that is calm and vibey but not sleepy. Funaki does this very well; you can stay tuned for 3 minutes while still wanting to hear more.
