LORNA SHORE BRINGS THE PAIN TO SOLD OUT RADIUS CHICAGO
Lorna Shore hit the road in mid-September on a 33-date tour destined to decimate any city. Playing ‘PAIN REMAINS’ and selling out 27 of those 33 dates, with supporting acts of Whitechapel, Kublai Khan TX, and Sanguisugabogg. The fans for this night in Chicago were ready to let the aggression out. Arriving an hour early for this show, fans were lined up already, packed in front of the Radius and down the road as far as you could see. Things were about to get wild with an expected 4,000+ capacity for this show. Chaos, destruction, and carnage would be the theme for tonight’s show.
SANGUISUGABOGG
Sanguisugabogg likes to play this game called “murder ball,” in which the singer (Devin Swank) would chuck a football into the crowd, and the last man standing with the ball could get it to the merch table would get a bunch of free merch. Tonight, unfortunately, the venue shut this game down. So, Devin turned this into “I see you no murderball, and I raise you complete chaos.” Screaming from the stage riser, “I want to see bodies moving, crowd surfers, get your asses up here, make the guys on the barricade work!” From the opening note of the first song “Face Ripped Off”, the crowd went into a frenzy like rabid dogs. Crowd surfers were coming over the barricade in droves, and a giant pit opened like some massive tornado, sucking unsuspecting crowd members in. I spent my duration in the photo pit for “A Lesson in Savagery” and “Skin Cushion” just to see the chaos build up. In the barricade security eyes, you could tell they were in “freak out” mode, rushing us out of the pit. At times during this set, it looked like a scene from World War Z when many zombies were coming over the wall. The fans went extremely hard for this set, and this was just the opener. The “Bogg” always brings chaos, and that’s why we are here.
KUBLAI KHAN TX
Kublai Khan TX brings hardcore beatdowns for their sets, getting fans moving and bodies slamming. This set seemed like a “one-upper” for the fans from the previous set. The band opened their set with “Supreme Ruler,” and we returned to complete chaos. It seemed the circle pit was twice the size as before, bodies being thrown about, slamming into each other like a multi-car pile-up on a freeway. During “Theory of Mind” and “Low Tech,” fans completely “popped off,” and all hell broke loose with one of the biggest pits and barrage of crowd surfers we have seen so far. We got to witness the most prominent wall of death we have ever seen live before. Some 1500+ people were included in this monstrosity of carnage. Kublai Khan asked the crowd to give them their all, and the crowd gave everything this set for the band. Some of the songs included in this set were “Swan Song,” “The Hammer,” Self Destruct,” and ending on “Antpile.”
WHITECHAPEL
Whitechapel has been a staple of the deathcore scene for 18 years, bringing experience, pain, and decimation wherever they go. Tonight would be no exception. Opening the set with “This Exile,” lead singer Phil Bozeman was ready to get going and whip this crowd into a frenzy. The gates of hell opened behind us in the circle pits, and again, bodies were being thrown about. People outside the pits were backing up to avoid being pulled in; some were seen pushing others in as a sacrifice to the masses of the pit. Listening to Phil in a song is nothing compared to having him twist his vocals differently in a live setting. It must be seen live to appreciate what he can do with his voice. During “Possession” and “Prostatic Fluid Asphyxiation,” the crowd returned to an extreme frenzy. This time, multiple pits opened, and an onslaught of crowd surfers attacked barricade security. Some of the other songs in this set included, “A Visceral Retch”, “Brimstone”, “A Bloodsoaked Symphony”, and ending with “The Saw is the Law”. Would there be any more unsuspecting sacrifices to the pit after this set? There are plenty of bodies left for it.
LORNA SHORE
Lorna has always had a cult following through the years. Will Ramos took over as vocalist in June of 2021, and the band has seemed to skyrocket in success since then. Will is no stranger to the scene, twisting his demonic vocals in bands such as Monument of a Memory and A Wake in Providence. We finally get to see what his inner demon can give us tonight. We’ve missed many opportunities to see this band due to our scheduling conflicts and sold-out shows. This band tends to sell out shows within weeks or days of a tour drop. Tonight was another sell-out, and the crowd was ready to see the “demon king” in action. Performing PAIN REMAINS in its entirety, fans were eager to get going for this one. As the house lights dropped, fans went utterly berserk. Lorna opened with their first song, “Welcome Back, O’ Sleeping Dreamer,” and the crowd responded with thunderous screams and applause. Watching the master twisting his vocals and bringing out his inner demonic vocals is a site to see up close and personal. This was just a warmup song for the crowd, the following 2 songs “Into the Earth” and “Sun/Eater” is when things took a turn into chaos. A gigantic swirling circle pit erupted, and crowd surfers made their way to the front by the dozens at a time. Throughout the entire set, the floor looked like a war zone, bodies were going in every direction, fans smashing into each other, complete and destruction. At times, Will could be seen with a smile of satisfaction with the chaos he created. Lorna Shore ended the night off with their encore song, “To the Hellfire,” which capped off an amazing evening of music and destruction. Huge Props to the crowd that went hard for all four bands nonstop all night and barricade security for the Radius that survived the droves of surfers. We even made a few appearances in the pit and crowd-surfed during Lorna’s set. If you want to see what complete carnage and destruction look like, catch one of the remaining dates on this tour or catch these bands separately when the tour is on their own. This is Get Some Mag signing off, I'll catch you on the next one, peeps.
