LOCAL LOS ANGELES MUSIC INSTITUTIONS GIVE BACK AFTER WILDFIRES DEVASTATE THE AREA
The LA wildfires are currently the biggest news story worldwide. The devastation has ravaged the area, causing many to lose their home, jobs, and core memories. As always, the LA music scene’s humanitarian efforts shine through even the toughest of times. Several local music institutions are doing their part to help LA recover from these unprecedented times.
Midnight Hour is offering free water, drinks, baby formula, diapers, toiletries, batteries, toys, animal food, blankets, pillows, bedding, shoes, and more today, January 10. Pickups are from 2-7 PM.
MusiCares is using donations to help wildfire relief efforts. They also have a hotline (+1-800-4227) and email (musicaresrelief@musicares.org) available to “consider emergency funds related to evacuation and relation costs, instrument replacement/repair, home damage, medical care, mental health services, & other essential living needs.”
Emo Nite’s charity effort, “Emo Nite Gives A Fuck,” is donating 10% of all ticket sales from their parties to relief efforts. This includes sales from parties outside of LA.
Guitar Center is helping replace gear lost in the wildfires. Their support line has reached its maximum capacity for requests but may re-open soon.
Junior High is hosting a free, all-ages sewing workshop on January 17th at noon to help people repair clothes damaged by the fires.
Resources and ways to help will likely evolve as the situation develops. Most LA fires are contained, while some have been put out entirely. Please adhere to all evacuation notices as soon as possible. Have a “go bag” ready until you are told everything is clear.
GSM will be posting updates as they arrive.
Stay safe, LA!
