LIGHTS RELEASES “ALIVE AGAIN” AND ANNOUNCES SIXTH STUDIO ALBUM ‘A6’ OUT MAY 2
Canadian songstress Lights has successfully escaped any box you can imagine putting her in. From her first couple projects reaching the emo/scene/warped tour audience to her transformation into heavier electronic soundscapes to this newest 2nd single off her upcoming album ‘A6,’- - she has had many lives in her career. There’s something so specific and fearless about her artistry that has a crystal clear through-line, but one you won’t ever be able to predict or put your finger on. She’s a great example of what it looks like when artists stay utterly true to themselves at their core but are not afraid to experiment, take risks, and play - crucial for developing a genuine and unique sound.
“Alive Again” will meet at that sweet spot of indie-electronic pop she seems to have mastered here. We start with a guitar riff that will transport you right into that scene of a coming-of-age film, where the main character finally frees themselves from their comfort zone. This song feels big, emotional, delicate at moments, and liberating.
Her classic sweet vocals in the verses build to a euphoric chanty chorus that will have you standing up through the sunroof of your friend’s car while driving through a tunnel - -
“This might be the night that I die,
and I don’t want to die alone,
so come a little closer.
I don’t even need to know your name.”
!!!
I was going to start listing similar acts as a “for-fans-of” recommendation, but this track is truly for fans of, well…..LIGHTS.
It’s always exciting (and really impressive) to watch someone you’ve been a long-time fan of being able to keep building their signature world while simultaneously creating another. It’s pure dedication. It’s rare. As a listener/fan, it makes Lights an artist you can trust.
‘A6’ is already off to such a promising start, and this roll-out will no doubt be spoiling us rotten.
