LEVI CONNOR'S NEW SINGLE "GOING TO SEA" EXAMINES HARSH EXISTENTIAL REALITIES

Levi Connor’s new single “Going To Sea” comes roaring and barreling into 2024 like a triple threat and tide wave of crashing drums and slamming guitar riffs with a mighty sound that fits well into the alternative rock category even metal formats.

Connor is the multi-instrumentalist on this beyond-solid and very impressive release. Vocally, his bio incredibly draws comparisons to two icons and heavyweights in music: Chris Cornell and Jeff Buckley. That shows a lot of confidence maybe bravado. But like both gifted artists, Connor possesses possibly close to a four-octave range, if not exactly, but it could be up there. His music like some of Cornell’s and Buckley’s is intensely personal and dark, too, yet this single has a faint glimmer of hope. Both artists died tragically under very different circumstances dealing with their demons, pressures, and more. Cornell’s was suicide by hanging. Ironically, Buckley died of an accidental drowning with his clothed body washed up on Beale Street birthplace of the blues in Memphis, TN. Could Levi Connor’s “Going To Sea” be his own modern-day blues song?

Eerily, it is a siren cry and agonizing plea for clarity and meaning in life. The song is supposed to be a philosophical conversation between two friends. But it sounds like the “fatalist” and “optimist” here is Connor. He could be playing devil’s advocate, too. Either way, someone is thinking of taking himself out of this world because the pain, suffering, and disappointment are too hard to bear. The only solution could be to find eternal peace and life elsewhere.
