KYLIE ROTHFIELD’S INDIE POP/ROCK INFLUENCED “TEMPORARY” EXPLORES A TOXIC, DYSFUNCTIONAL CONNECTION
Singer, songwriter and guitarist Kylie Rothfield has a way with words and getting her perspective and point of view across in “Temporary.” Rothfield is not afraid to call herself out and her “boyfriend” in this mess of an ongoing situation. It’s really on life support and indeed running its sad, pathetic course. Yet there is dark humor and pathos if you read between the lines in “Temporary.”
Musically, “Temporary” is melodic, somewhat gentle at the beginning of the track, and quickly kicks into rock and roll overdrive. Her intricate guitar work is multi-faceted and layered. The solos are powerful and very good.
Her bio touts Rothfield as vocally being on the level of Alicia Keyes. That might be a bit of a stretch, and she can sing anything, is subject to personal opinion and interpretation. Rothfield’s singing is serviceable and likable. Her strong suit is in the gutsy guitar playing style and her ability to craft an original story with truth and conviction, find the irony, cruel, painful, or otherwise, and lay it out naked.
