JOSEPH PIVOTS TO NEW GENRE IN “READY TO LET YOU DOWN”

JOSEPH’s new single, “Ready to Let You Down,” carries a hopeful tune that shakes up their discography and symbolizes self-acceptance. The duo is gearing up for their new album, which will be released early in 2026.

The song is brighter than the band’s previous work, carrying a more indie pop vibe than the previous slower, folk style. The drum loops carry the beat from the start to finish, filling the air with an upbeat melody and laid-back tune. I will say – this drum loop is used very often, so it sounds a little similar to many mainstream songs.

It’s giving Lorde’s Solar Power era. Light, healed, and stepping into a new age.

Perfectionism and expectation from others are explored in the song. The strong theme that carries throughout is trying to conform to a person but failing to be a “chameleon,” bending at will. In the end, though, they “don’t need to make you proud,” living for themselves instead of changing to fit a narrative.

The vocals are great, they’re raw, expressive, and emotional. Perfect for a song of this magnitude.

Side note – I do love the repetition of “I’m,” it works on every level for the message of the song and sets a tone of strength every time it’s said. The lyrics are straightforward, yet carry a relatable message.

JOSEPH is trying to break out of a box, and it’s evident; I applaud them for that. Given the context that this is some of their first work after the departure of a long-term member, their new sound is still being discovered. Overall, the vocals and message of “Ready to Let You Down” make this an excellent song. I'm excited to listen to the whole album when it’s released.
