SAINT MOTEL PULLS THE BELLWETHER INTO AN UNOFFICIAL AWARD SHOW
WORDS AND PHOTOS BY BRYAN GREENBERG
Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the Saint Motel awards show; a sequel to their critically acclaimed predecessor “Motion City Sound Track.” Please take your seats.
A round of applause as the band takes the stage, and dives straight into fan favorite “Van Horn.” As the audience catches their breath, it is announced that the crowd will be responsible for voting to hear their favorite songs. Giant QR codes are passed around.
The votes are in: “Daydream/Wetdream/Nightmare” from their 2012 album ‘Voyur’ has been chosen. Immediately following comes the uplifting piano intro of “Puzzle Pieces.”
Fan choice number three hits hard with “For Elise” from ‘Saintmoteltelevision’.
As we edge closer to the end of the evening, the dedicated fans that have flooded The Bellwether are graced with new material “Everybody’s A Guru Now,” and “Fine Wine” from their most recent 2023 EP.
Just as we thought the evening had concluded, and the curtains had dropped, the band approached the stage for their final act. Accompanied by the talented Mariachi Los Toros, “Ace in the Hole” soars throughout every square inch of The Bellwether. Then, silence. The lights go black as the audience waits in anticipation. From nowhere comes the infamous saxophone intro of “My Type.” Towards the middle of the song, lead singer A.J. Jackson disappears into the sea of the crowd, only to appear once again on the balcony; triumphantly singing with the help of his dedicated fans.
