Montreal’s emotionally raw post-hardcore trio Spite House has unveiled their latest single and video, “10 Days,” offering a hauntingly direct look into grief and connection just ahead of their anticipated sophomore album, Desertion, set for release on September 12 via Pure Noise Records.
The new track lands midway through Desertion’s heart-wrenching sequence; an intensely personal concept record that retraces the most traumatic moments of vocalist Max Lajoie’s past. With “10 Days,” he revisits the truncated farewell with his mother following her cancer diagnosis; ten days to say what was left unsaid.
In both sound and sentiment, “10 Days” is potent. It balances visceral, jagged guitar lines and gut-punching rhythm with emotional clarity, letting Lajoie’s raw vocals carry the weight of the moment. The accompanying video mirrors that intensity, serving as a quiet, stark visual counterpart that refuses to let us look away.
Spite House’s signing to Pure Noise Records feels like the right frame for this reckoning. Desertion isn’t just a collection of songs; it’s an adult-level confrontation with faith, grief, and what it takes to keep going when there seems to be nothing left. That willingness to bare it all is what makes this release feel like more than music—it feels like survival in sonic form.
