HONEYSUCKER TURN UP THE HEAT WITH SEDUCTIVE NEW SINGLE “DON’T WAKE”

Honeysucker may have a real hit on their hands with the instantly likable single “Don’t Wake.” I’ll admit, I’m not usually a fan of anything branded as “Yacht Rock” — or in this case, “Land-Locked Yacht Rock” — but this track is an exception. Seductive, multifaceted, and effortlessly replayable, it hooked me immediately. The fact that I’ve already spun it multiple times is always a good sign in my book.

What makes “Don’t Wake” stand out is the way it weaves together so many diverse musical elements without ever sounding cluttered. The song glides seamlessly from one style to another, pulling threads from the past — echoes of the ‘60s and ‘70s — while grounding itself firmly in the present with modern textures and production. It feels nostalgic yet refreshingly current, a balance that’s difficult to achieve.

Formed in 2022 by Brooklyn-based indie-pop artists Jack Brickner and Sam Wright, Honeysucker seems to have tapped into something bigger than a momentary trend. Whether deliberate or unconscious, their sound speaks across generations, bridging eras with music that feels timeless rather than tied to a single category. Their work resists pigeonholing — free-flowing, boundless, and open to improvisation — yet it always remains anchored by smart songwriting and a structure that makes sense.

With “Don’t Wake,” Honeysucker proves that indie-pop can still be adventurous while staying irresistibly accessible. It’s smooth, seductive, and, most importantly, endlessly replayable — the kind of track that lingers long after it ends.
