LATHE OF HEAVEN DROP DARK NEW SINGLE “OBLIVION”

Credit: Yulissa Benitez

Lathe of Heaven is back with a shadowy, pulse-pounding new single titled “Oblivion,” and it’s every bit as hypnotic and heavy as we’ve come to expect from the Brooklyn-based post-punk unit. The track arrives ahead of their highly anticipated full-length album Aurora, set to drop August 29 via Sacred Bones Records.

“Oblivion” creeps in with icy synths, mechanical drum patterns, and a brooding low-end that sounds like Joy Division went clubbing in a nuclear bunker. It’s cold, dark, and weirdly danceable—the kind of song that feels tailor-made for staring into the void at 2 a.m., cigarette in hand, questioning the very fabric of reality. Frontman Sam Salomon’s vocals cut through the haze with chilling detachment, evoking a dystopian narrator who’s seen too much and survived just enough to tell the tale.

The accompanying video, available now on YouTube, is a surreal visual feast that mirrors the song’s tension—flickering lights, disjointed architecture, and spectral silhouettes drifting through concrete ruins. It’s Lynchian nightmare fuel, and we’re here for every frame.

Aurora marks the band’s second release with Sacred Bones and promises to expand on the dissonant atmospheres and gritty textures that earned their 2023 debut cult status among underground heads. If “Oblivion” is any indication, we’re in for a record that digs even deeper into the gloom while sharpening the band’s melodic instincts.
