GUM PARKER HAS GIVEN US AN INSTANT INDIE-PUNK CLASSIC WITH THE RELEASE OF SECOND SINGLE “HIVE”

This song wastes no time. “Hive” by Gum Parker packs a ton of energy into the short 2:29 track. We’re dropped into its indie-punk world as soon as it starts, and it’s all up from there. A wall of fuzzy guitar riffs, catchy melodies in every section of the song, and layered/shouty anthemic lyrics - you can hear a lot of nostalgia and old-school influence in this track.  For fans of The Ramones, The Misfits, Dinosaur Jr., My Bloody Valentine, … you get it. It’s indie-rock, it’s shoegaze, it’s punk, and it’s refreshing to hear a new song nail the sound this perfectly in 2025.

I think most of us can relate to the sentiment of the metaphoric lyrics. That sluggish feeling of defeat piles on until you pull the covers over your head and talk yourself out of all your plans for the day.

The band tells us: “I had tickets to see Pile in a city a couple hours from my house on what turned out to be a rainy weeknight, and as the day wore on, it became clear I wasn't going to go. By the time it was too late to change my mind, I'd worked myself into a lousy mood, and this was the song that came out of that. For whatever reason, I only had one verse in me, so our bass player Kate Sullivan-Jones, who sings this song and about half of the album, wrote the second verse.”

If you loved this one, you’d be ecstatic to know that this Portland, Maine group is releasing its debut album, ‘The Brakes’ on Repeating Cloud in April of 2025!
