TWIN SHADOW ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE “AWKWARD BACKWARD” AND SEVENTH ALBUM CADET

Twin Shadow is back with a new single, “Awkward Backward,” the first glimpse of his upcoming seventh album, Cadet, due out this fall on Dom Recs.

The track finds George Lewis Jr. leaning into the balance he’s always chased; catchy, radio-ready hooks wrapped in his signature emotional honesty. “Awkward Backward” feels playful on the surface, but there’s a bite in its rhythm and lyricism that hints at deeper layers still to come on the full record.

Over the last decade, Twin Shadow has become one of indie’s most restless shapeshifters. He broke through with 2010’s Forget and 2012’s Confess, records steeped in glossy synth-pop, before shifting into rock, funk, and Latin influences across later projects. His self-titled 2021 album marked a return to form, sharpening his songwriting while keeping that genre-fluid edge intact.

Cadet looks set to continue that evolution. If “Awkward Backward” is any indication, fans can expect an album that nods to Twin Shadow’s neon-lit past while carving out new territory.

The single is streaming everywhere now. Cadet lands this fall.
