Live Nation Productions just announced the film “New Years Rev” — a Green Day-approved comedy guaranteed to be as chaotic as a van-load of end-of-the-road sleep-deprived punk kids with a gas-station diet.

Allegedly inspired by Green Day’s most Winona-in-the-tour-van-and-sober years, the film was written and directed by Lee Kirk (the fella who helped Billie Joe Armstrong make sense of adulthood in Ordinary World). According to Variety, it follows three ambitious friends (played by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust) on a cross-country adventure after they persuade themselves they’re opening for Green Day on New Year’s Eve. Spoiler: things get messy.

“Van days rule,” says Billie Joe, who’s been around. “There’s all this driving all night on fumes, and then you have to play a show for 10 kids in a basement at some dude’s cousin’s friend’s house 3,000 miles away. Then you’ll do it again. And again. Because you can do it with your bandmates, your family, and nothing compares.” It’s electric. And, good luck finding a bathroom.”

The film also features Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey (yes, Pam and Angela from The Office) and Ignacio Diaz-Silverio and Keen Ruffalo.
