Holding Absence just made a major move, officially signing with Sumerian Records and kicking things off with “Whisper Of A Dream,” a new single and video that immediately sets the tone for what’s next.
The track leans into everything the band does best. Big builds, soaring vocals, and that balance between vulnerability and intensity. Lucas Woodland sounds locked in, delivering a performance that feels controlled but ready to break at any moment. The production feels wider and more deliberate, too, without losing the raw edge that’s always defined them.
Speaking on the release, Woodland explains:
“'Whisper Of A Dream' is our first song back in what feels like forever. After releasing our third record, 'The Noble Art Of Self-Destruction', it felt essential to step away for a while - to take stock and rediscover who we are as a band. 'Whisper' felt like the perfect song to return with. In many ways, it represents everything Holding Absence has always been, while introducing new elements to our sound and opening the door to what comes next.
Lyrically and conceptually, the song draws heavily from cyberpunk media. Contemplation, sentience, and dreaming in an ever-evolving world. The music video also introduces our robot mascot “Y4-BB0”, a character you’ll be seeing more of in the coming years.
That intent carries through in both the track and the video, adding a cinematic layer without overdoing it.
More than anything, this doesn’t feel like a reset. It feels like a sharper, more focused continuation.
North American fans can catch Holding Absence at Welcome To Rockville on May 7, Sonic Temple on May 14, plus fall stops at Louder Than Life (enter our giveaway HERE) and Aftershock.
