GERNZ PLAYS WITH THE MEANING OF PAIN IN ‘OW!’

Gernz collects different rock eras like Pokémon and turns them into their own, unique sound. Their newest release, “OW!,” is a catchy representation of the band’s easy-going but introspective personality.

From the start, you can immediately hear that late ‘90s Blink-182 progression that hooks you in. The growly, Kurt Cobain-inspired vocals add a grunginess that makes you feel like you’re perched at a backyard show, drinking a beer. The hook then comes in and whips you into a modern, hooky, and loud sound that’s simply addicting.

The trio has some serious chemistry and knows how to pack a punch. From the pop-punk style drums to the steady rhythm guitar, it’s impossible not to nod your head or tap your feet to the beat.

While the track has playfulness to it – with the story literally stemming from the pain of stubbing your toe – its purpose extends beyond the knee-jerk reaction to sudden pain. It asks you to reflect on those especially emotional times … feeling them for how they are, eventually realizing they’re what help you grow.

Overall, Gernz doesn’t back down in “OW!,” creating a track that succeeds in both story and sound. Their melodic hooks will surely keep us coming back, so we can’t wait to see what’s next!
