FYRE FEST IS SET TO RETURN AFTER CONTROVERSIAL START
Yikes—we haven’t heard that name in years! Remember Fyre Festival? Though many hailed it as an expensive mistake, Fyre Fest and all of its controversial glory marked a turning point for festival culture. Tickets and accommodations are already difficult, especially in a turbulent economy, but poor planning can wreak even more havoc on patrons. Still, Fyre Fest believes it deserves a second chance, so they’re back at it again.
Founder Billy McFarland (no, not the Family Guy guy) was initially convicted after the epic failure that was Fyre Fest 2017. He claims a “luxury experience” for attendees, with the short-end of ticket prices starting at $1,400 and the high-end reaching $1.1 million. There’s a lot to be said about late-stage consumerism; however, I don’t know if we can feel sorry for you if you can gamble away a million bucks and come out unscathed.
To top it all off, NO performers have been announced. Go easy on Warped Tour while they slowly roll out the goodies. At least they have mid-tier bands to announce; we’re not convinced Fyre Fest knows who’s performing.
Still, McFarland could have learned during his 4-year prison stay. During that time, it seems he has been focused on removing the gargantuan stain he left on his own reputation by a colossal oversight in planning. He defrauded investors of over $27 million. Most of us will not see that much money in our lifetimes.
Unlike last time, the new Fyre Fest will take place in Mexico. Originally, the event was hosted on a private island in the Bahamas.
We’re not super optimistic that this will turn out well, but hopefully, McFarland will be able to repay the $26 million he still owes to the investors he stole borrowed from.
Who are you hoping to see at Fyre Fest?
