FWANGO’S LATEST SINGLE, “CONSEQUENCES,” REMAINS BOTH CHARGED AND FUN

Indie-emo arguably acts as an unsung hero. Often impactful and overlooked equally, the subgenre has birthed greats like Car Seat Headrest and, now, Fwango. Its intersectionality allows for some fantastic guitar work, emotional deep-dives, and catchy hooks—all of which are the markings of Fwango’s latest, “Consequences.”

With a vocal range that mimics that of a more soulful Rivers Cuomo and a lead guitar solo rivaling that of the shredder Albert Hammond Jr., Fwango offers well-rounded reference points. However, they’re much better than the bands a listener can compare them to. Their big indie-emo sound captivates listeners with a large, analog sound and keeps them hooked with introspective lyrics.

Fwango is not only technically skilled but emotionally intelligent. The narrative in their song suggests that everyone may make mistakes, but while it feels like they will “catch up to (me),” they don’t necessarily define one’s character. Instead, the perspective insinuates that growth is possible for most, if not all, people.

“Consequences” may have a vibrantly bright sound, but it delves deeply into humanity. They come just in time for those of us who yearn for the analog days of earlier alt rock, or, instead, for those of us who are just a smidge too young to have properly appreciated it the first time around.
