Australia has been a gold mine for music in the past, but recently there has been a surge in new independent artists breaking through to the forefront of the music world. With the great success of Aussie project Tame Impala, once a local psych-rock band playing small shows at pubs to being titans of the music world, it seems anything is possible!

Forces and Fury deliver a new single “Sleep Departure” which begins with a very eerie synth with layered textures swelling in the background. When the vocalist comes in, it reminds me of early The xx songs as well as Crumb with a more electronic twist. Their inspiration is from The xx, Broods, and Banks which definitely shows in their unique sound. The song builds to a beautiful drop of drum and bass that drive the rest of the song. The single is very entrancing and can hook the listener immediately with their strategic use of unconventional synth textures and layering. A melodic reverb dripping guitar swells while the drum and bass keep the tempo locked in. The vocals then have a delicious harmony accompanying the lead and remains for the rest of the song.
