MY LAST GOODBYE DEMAND THE TRUTH ON INFECTIOUS NEW SINGLE “DON’T TELL ME LIES”

With only their second single, My Last Goodbye is keeping the pop-punk party going with “Don’t Tell Me Lies,” turning the pain of being lied to by the people you trust into a ridiculously catchy song that refuses to leave your head.

Despite the bummer of a subject, “Don’t Tell Me Lies” never gets bogged down in its own misery. Instead, the Apple Valley quartet wraps that frustration in uplifting riffs, infectious hooks, and a massive sing-along chorus. It’s the kind of contrast pop punk has always done best: shitty situation, great fucking song.

There are also signs that My Last Goodbye might already be looking beyond the boundaries of their current sound. Some of the guitar tones throughout “Don’t Tell Me Lies” flirt with something heavier, giving the track a little extra weight without sacrificing its accessibility. If the band decides to push further in that direction, they certainly sound capable of handling it. They already understand what makes their current sound work, and adding a little more muscle could make everything feel even bigger.

But the real magic of “Don’t Tell Me Lies” is its simplicity.

There’s nothing overly complicated here. No weird time signatures. No unnecessary detours. No fat that needs to be trimmed. It’s simply a catchy pop-punk song built around an immediately relatable subject, and My Last Goodbye don’t even bother hiding the message behind some elaborate metaphor.

Sometimes you don’t need one.

Someone lied to you. It fucking sucks. Write a song about it.

With only two singles under their belt, My Last Goodbye are still introducing themselves, but “Don’t Tell Me Lies” makes a convincing argument that there’s plenty more worth hearing.
