FAITH FOX RETURNS WITH ELECTRIFYING NEW ‘PSYCHO’ EP

Some artists, including Faith Fox, just ooze a level of coolness that is often attempted and rarely successful. Her classic rock n’ roll vibe offers a fresh take on familiar sounds. Knowing Faith’s music at this stage feels like finding a hidden gem. Her skill set far surpasses her streaming numbers, mainly due to the passion behind her projects. Faith Fox’s most recent EP, ‘PSYCHO,’ is extraordinarily explorative, digging deeply into modern relationship dynamics. The dating world is confusing, rendering Faith’s record necessary in today’s social climate. Music is medicine; lyricism like Faith Fox’s strong-willed penmanship can help millions. This is her second release of 2024, and it’s a gigantic leap in the right direction, as it’s just her second release overall.

The opening track, “SQUARE ONE,” is larger-than-life, embodying a cinematic quality mimicking a film score. The song’s production is incredibly dynamic, vibrating with energy throughout each layer. Faith’s vocal range is impressive; she can express herself with big belts and subtle cracks. Her passionate performance is perfect for the song’s lyrics, which sound like a page from her diary. Modern rock has taken on a fascinating face, but Faith’s take on it is fresh, flowing like water as she tackles tough emotional topics.

Next, “TILL I DIE” offers an upbeat, catchy vibe that contrasts that of the EP’s opener. Still, it’s Faith’s vocal ability that takes center stage. Her range is perfect for this style of music as if it was made specifically for her to sing. She could join the ranks of rock heroes like Hey Monday, giving a new life to the 2000s iteration of this soundscape. The song’s catchy chorus will be stuck in my head for days, with its roaring, distorted guitars humming alongside the silky-smooth melody.

Faith Fox picked the perfect producers for her record, and their skillset shows in “PICK UP THE PHONE.” The guitar playing is so tight throughout the whole record, but the picking at the song's beginning is extraordinarily clean. The crescendo that is built by the chorus is brilliant. Faith Fox’s sound is similar to that of Jules Is Dead, who is also on the rise in the same scene. A collaboration by the two artists would be fantastic, indicative of the genre’s growth over the years, allowing other voices to be heard within an otherwise saturated space.

As the record ends, “THE GIVING TREE” slows things down for a vulnerable moment. Thematically, the lyrics add nuance to Faith as a narrator; she is our protagonist, but the perspective offered adds depth and humanity to Faith as a performer. Again, the tight instrumental allows her stories to live the life they deserve. Each player provides additional layers of context, as the song's meaning is best expressed through the sounds being played rather than the words being said.

Finally, “NORMAN BATES” is the most significant lead single on the record, even though it closes it out. Faith digs deeply into modern relationships, often shaped by complicated dating apps like the one mentioned in the song (but if anyone has a referral code for it…please let me know!). Modern-day dating is a problem; we are expected to put ourselves in a sea with plenty of fish with short attention spans. This track is perfect, with just enough humor to get by, and could be what Faith Fox needed to be pushed into the mainstream. Millions of girls worldwide can relate to this song’s message.

Ultimately, Faith Fox is a star in the making who is just getting started with her ‘PSYCHO’ ep. The production quality is top notch, giving her massive vocal range room to play. Hopefully, she continues to explore personal meanings within her songs. This tactic has worked well for superstars, but bringing the ideology to the rock space could do wonders for Faith. Overall, this is a fantastic starting point; hopefully, the songstress has plenty planned for 2025.
