DUBINSKI DROPS “CIGGY BURNS,” A MOODY AND MOTIVATIONAL TRACK
Dubinski has dropped “Ciggy Burns,” a ripping indie-rock foil to their previous lighter single, “Back To Basics.” The Scotland-based brother four-piece utilizes catchy riffs and clever lyrics to get their point about volatile emotions across.
From the moment the song opens, the guitar absolutely shreds through your ears. The stunning riff carries throughout each high-emotion part of the song. There’s a sweet melody, one that’s energetic and upbeat but still carries that moody atmosphere.
It’s punchy and rhythmic, the drums and bass working in harmony to create a balance of heavy and slower parts.
Each word reveals a deeper story of desperation: “A very habit becomes your demise.” The slippery slope of addiction and depression is explored, and speaks to so many attempts to cope. The repetition seen from “I am…” followed by self-depricating thoughts of being a fool, a scum, a mess – all revolving around negative self-talk. The song builds on this, as there’s a general sense of defeat at this point, singing glumfully, “No, I can’t get over it.”
Pounding drums mark the beginning of realization. It breaks it down, slowing to make way for a pop-punk buildup with a striking discovery: “Now I can get over it.” Acknowledging flaws while also getting over the mocking mind within.
“Ciggy Burns” is an upbeat and emotional track that taps into a side of Dubinski that makes you want to sing along.
