Sometimes you know a song is deeply personal before you finish listening to it. Dayseeker’s “Crawl Back To My Coffin” is one of those tunes. The Orange County, CA emo core band is back with their third track off of their upcoming release, Creature In The Black Night, a heavy ballad about being hopelessly heartbroken over and over again.
A simple song with smooth chord progressions, “Crawl Back To My Coffin” continues Dayseeker's tradition of cranking out heartfelt and intimate songs. Singer Rory Rodriguez’s words have always been thoughtful and personal, and “Crawl Back To My Coffin” is no different; a strong example of lyrics elevating a good song to a better song. You can hear the pain in his voice as he bemoans another failed relationship, using simple metaphors and agonizing harmonies. The melody and tone are on point, and the music consistently matches the mood - all things that you can always count on in a Dayseeker song. Even the accompanying video for this track is beautifully shot and darkly romantic, perfectly encapsulating the vibe of the song. And with a very singable chorus, “Crawl Back To My Coffin” will have you screaming out the chorus even if you’re in the healthiest of relationships.
Even though “Crawl Back To My Coffin” has that distinct Dayseeker sound, the song also shows growth in terms of lyrical imagery and relatable experiences. If you’ve ever had your heart broken, I dare you to listen to this song and not feel something.
Next time you’re driving home after another breakup, put on “Crawl Back To My Coffin”, sing it at the top of your lungs, and let Dayseeker take you home.
“Crawl Back To My Coffin” is out now, and Dayseeker’s new album, Creature In The Black Night, will be released on October 24.xa
